D.J. wandered into the living room, muttering under her breath. Her hands were clenched into fists, revealing an inner anger. What had gotten her so worked up? |

Her gaze searched the room, resting on the furniture, the walls, the curtains in turn. Chris followed. Was she looking for a clue the others had missed? It would be hard to learn anything now that the house had been put back together. |

"I can't understand how this place got fixed up. I think I'll call the station and ask." |

"No!" D.J. spun around. Chris frowned. "I mean, let it go. One of your neighbors must have done you a favor. But if the captain hears a crime scene was cleared before he gave the okay, there'll be trouble. I'll talk to Lou about it." |

"Oh, I never thought of that." No wonder she was so angry. He hoped no one got fired over this mistake. "All right," he agreed. |

D.J. heaved a sigh that sounded almost like relief. "Do you mind if I look around?" she asked, already stepping toward the hallway. |

"No. Go ahead. Though, since everything's picked up, I don't know what you'll be able to learn about the break-in." |

"Uh-huh," she muttered and took the stairs two at a time. |

By the time Chris caught up with her she stood in his parents' room. When he came in she was looking behind the closet door and whispering under her breath. |
